Over the River

Over the river and thru the wood,

To grandmother's house we go;
The horse knows the way
To carry the sleigh,
Thru the white and drifted snow, oh!
Over the river and thru the wood,
Oh, how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes,
And bites the nose,
As over the ground we go.

Over the river and thru the wood,
To have a first-rate play;
Oh, hear the bell ring,
"Ting-a-ling-ling!"
Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day-ay!
Over the river and thru the wood,
Trot fast my dapple gray!
Spring over the ground,
Like a hunting hound!
For this is Thanksgiving Day.

It may not be to my grandmother's,

and it may not be by sleigh nor through the snow,
but we will be going over some rivers
to get to my mother's house to celebrate Thanksgiving.

I probably won't be posting much during the next week, but don't fret...
I'll be checking in and dropping comments here and there for all of you!

To all by blog buddies.....

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
even for those of you who don't actually celebrate this American holiday,

I am thankful to have you as my blog friends!

I never knew any line beside the first 2.

Am I the only one who hates Thanksgiving. Not for getting together with the family but the meal.

Turkey - hate
Stuffing - tolerate
Cranberries - yuck
Rolls - Ok I'll eat that
Pumpkin and Apple Pie - Yuck (hate cooked fruit)

Am I also the only one who likes processed turkey (cold cuts) but not real cooked turkey?

Anyway...safe travels YNB. And hope you get stuffed on Thanksgiving.

Wondering what Bearman actually likes? I'd prefer lamb actually, if I could rule the world..

Bet my kids don't even know the song, it was a favorite for me. Thanksgivings were always big family get-togethers, with a more than generous measure of alcohol thrown in... with frequent disasterous results. But all in all good times.
My Thanksgivings are quieter and this year will be quiet as well. But we will have the obligatory turkey and stuffing. If for no reason other than nostalgia and my desire to cook.

Thanks for the trip back as well as your good wishes to the blog world! Enjoy.

Happy Thanksgiving, YnB. That's a lovely photo of your family. Although, to be honest, I thought you were a bit younger than you look in the picture. Maybe you should consider some hair dye and contacts.

Have a great time!

Bearman... expensive tastes.. I guess I have to ask why "obviously" raisins?

And, what does your family have on Thanksgiving? or are you a non-Thanksgiving country person?

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Gobble gobble -- at least I believe that's the proper seasonal greeting...? But I'm often and easily confused...

FL - so are the palm trees decorated with lights yet? I always that was interesting since I grew up with evergreens having the lights.

yorksnbeans said...

Lisle....yes, some of my mother's neighbors have begun decorating their yards already. Palms are beautiful when lit up, but very different from the traditional kind!
