Did You Say Merkin?

If you have been lucky enough to stumble upon Alan Truitt's "Sick Days" blog, you would know that one of his favorite words is "merkin". He uses it in just about any context whenever the mood should strike. It is a great word considering that just saying it, brings about a smile.

So, what is a merkin, you may ask? (The photo is a pretty good hint...although, it seems to me it should be called a "furkin".) I wasn't exactly sure myself, so I thought I'd do a google on it and found this fabulous page that one would think Alan, himself, might have written. No wonder it's his "word of choice".

Click here for some merkin laughs!

What I wanna know is, is it real hair or synthetic?

I know it's 2009, but I guess I'll be voting for "Bush" again.

George...LOL. I would assume they're synthetic!

I thought you were all 'merkins?

After all, wasn't it Gee Dubya who started one of his hilarious speeches by claiming to be

"..proud to be a merkin..."

(you really need the Texas accent to make that one sound right)

Hi Yorksnbeans,

Mr. Ivan from Brazil writes in Portugeuse, I believe. His blog has an "English 4U" tab that is very informative.

He's also a very nice fellow and he owes me 3 dollars.

(Sorry, now that I have free time on my hands I'm into everyone elses business.)

wow.. I can do your blog through IE7 finally!!! must have been Hangman, three cheers to Andy and you!!

yorksnbeans said...

Thank you Ram. I hadn't looked close enough to notice it wasn't Spanish. Your 2 cents is welcome here anytime! ;-)

DF....Blogger has cleaned up their widget selections. They must have had problems with many of them because the selection to choose from is much smaller now.(I found this out today when Andy and I were testing them.) Hangman and Clocks are no longer available (through Blogger). I'll miss them both. :-(

Forgot to mention...but it's definitely worth it, if all my buddies can blog effortlessly here!! :-)

Hahahaha!

Thanks for the kind words and making me do a tea spit take. Both are greatly appreciated.

FYI: I still believe that merkintilism is an economic theory. ;)
