The Problem With Young People Today Is They Have Too Many Darn Friends

Yep, you're on the right blog, and no, it's not Crabby Old Fart. Sorry, Crabby, but I just had to title this post that way. This post is kind of a tribute to you! (YnB, that little Weasel)

I just recently started entertaining Facebook, and good lord, I'm feeling a bit inadequate. My numbers are way low, embarrassingly low. My friend network is currently at 14, half of which are my neices and nephews. I'm racking my brain for names. I'll be ecstatic if my numbers ever reach 30.

Now, we have to take into consideration that I am no teenager, nor twenty something, but I can't overlook the fact that even when I was that age, my friend network never came close to 562 or 837. Crap, I'm not sure I've ever known that many people in my entire life!

So, where do these friend counts come from? Are the youth of today that popular? Where do they meet these friends? Are they talking to every Brittany, Zac & Amanda they meet on the street and giving them their Facebook account?

What ever happened to the good old days when we only had just one BFF?

My nephews won't link to me b/c they think I go running to tell their dad what they are up to.

so far, i have resisted signing up for facebook or twitter. this way, i can make believe that a lot of people like me.

Bear...so far only one niece hasn't responded to my friend request. I'm hoping she pulls through!

Nonnie...the only reason I decided to was because since I've started blogging, I'm emailing and calling people less! Go wonder! ;-)

That's funny. Now that I've joined Facebook, I'm absolutely certain that I'm a reclusive, socially inept hag. Only 10 friends here. Not including family members. I'm hoping the "not including family members" makes me less of a socially inept hag!

don't you think the trend now is more toward blogging? i dunno, i have an acct but it just sits there. i'm not quite sure what to do with all the purple elephants and golden gems i get from people i dont know. hell, i'm not even sure what they mean. i'm sticking with blogging.

We're in the age of high tech. Everything has changed.

Sweats...I share those sentiments!

Geo...Hey there! On at the same time! Yep, it's certainly different than in the dark ages when you actually had to stand near the phone base to talk! :-)

I'll never understand these young people. When I was a boy you had 2 friends and they were expected to last you until middle age.

Thanks for the plug.

All the best

Don

Dunc....whew...I'm glad to know there's someone who's less popular than me! ;-)

I had to twist the wife's arm before she'd agree to be my friend on Facebook !!!

I have a couple of good friends whom I met on Facebook that eventually became real-life friends. As a matter of fact, my wife and I met on MySpace from opposite coasts and we're living the greatest lives together now. :)

George - How impressive!! Good for you! (and your wife)

OMG! You only have 14 BFF's? WOW! You really need to randomly case your current friends so that you can request all their friends.
Kidding, doesn't stuff like that make you feel like a loser when in reality you honestly know the people on your facebook? I got rid of mine for now. I didn't like telling people I didn't want them on my friend network. I only wanted people that I really talk to and actually know. They take it hard...

Betty....so that's how it works?! They don't really know all those people....hmmm....that makes more sense.
